PRESTON — Lula H. Wilslef, age 94, of Maquoketa, Iowa, formerly of Preston, Iowa, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa with Reverend Greg Geier officiating. Burial will take place in Preston Cemetery, Preston. A visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2014 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston. Memorials may be given to St. John Evangelical Church or a charity of the donor’s choice. Friends and family are invited to share in Lula’s life at

Lula was born September 19, 1919, the daughter of Henry and Louisa (Mohr) Ringen in rural Preston, Iowa. She attended Preston High School and graduated with the Class of 1937. She married Roy Wilslef on September 24, 1938 in Dubuque, Iowa. Roy died November 26, 1970 in Clinton, Iowa.

Lula spent her working years farming with her husband and working for the Jackson County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Ladies Farm Bureau and was active in delivering Meals on Wheels for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening, music, and playing cards and dominoes. Most of all, Lula loved her family, friends, and her life on the farm.

Lula will be dearly missed by one son, Allan (Karen) Wilslef or Ferris, Texas; three daughters Karen (Bob) Aldis of Preston, Sandra (John) Ortega of Bettendorf, Iowa and Diane (David) Jargo of Preston; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren; She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy; one infant daughter; a granddaughter, Sherri Goodell; one brother Wilber Ringen, and one sister, Hazel Wilslef.
