DEWITT — Arthur Frey, age 90, of DeWitt, died Tuesday morning, June 25, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor David Olson of Harvest Bible Chapel, Davenport, Iowa, will officiate. Burial and military rites will be at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound, Iowa.

Pallbearers will be Michael Frey, Matthew Frey, Heath Frey, Mark Schroeder, Eddie Mercado, and Chris Carr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Heather Frey Schroeder, Heidi Frey Carr, Cara Frey Johnson, Sara Frey, and Staci Frey Mercado.

Arthur was born October 29, 1922, in Sterling, Illinois, to Charles and Mary (Kline) Frey. He attended schools in Clinton County. Arthur served in the Army for five years during WWII in the European Theatre. He married BeElda E. Blackman on March 4, 1946 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Welton, Iowa. They owned and operated Frey’s Eats restaurant in DeWitt for three years following his Army discharge. Arthur worked for Walker’s grocery, and later Walker’s men’s store from 1950 until his retirement in 1986.

He was an avid golfer, and received many trophies and several hole-in-one awards while a member of Springbrook Country Club, in DeWitt. He was also a member of the DeWitt American Legion.

Arthur is survived by 3 sons, Dean (Beverly), and Gene (Pat) all of DeWitt, and Dennis (Carolyn) of Montevallo, Alabama; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Gene) Bradt of Pascagoula, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, twin grandsons, a great-grandson, a sister and a brother.
