ERIE, Ill. — William “Bill” Woodhurst, age 74, of Erie, Illinois, died Wednesday morning, June 26, 2013 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Erie United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Friday at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Erie. Burial with military honors will be held at the Erie Cemetery.

Bill was born on December 2, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Edna (Comstock) Woodhurst. He married Violet Johnson of Sabula on April 19, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa. Bill was an Army veteran serving in the late 50’s and was stationed in Okinawa. Bill has been in the trucking business nearly all of his adult life. Along with his wife, he owned Woodhurst Trucking and was also an agent/dispatcher for CRST, Inc., Cedar Rapids, IA, for nearly 20 years. He continued to drive his truck as an Owner-Operator until his health issues worsened. Having grown up in the Sabula and Miles area, he had been a resident of Erie since 1979.

Bill enjoyed traveling and has visited most of the 50 states, several foreign countries, and many of the Islands. He also enjoyed visiting with fellow truckers, talking on the phone, and he definitely enjoyed buying and selling trucks!!

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Violet; and their 4 children, Jeffrey Woodhurst, of Clinton, IA, Cynthia Russell, of Savanna, IL, Pamela Reynolds, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jill (John) Teats, of Erie. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, April Rick, Greg (Kelly) Teats, Megan (Justin) Jensen, Lauren Woodhurst, Kimberly (Sawyer Kuepker) Teats, Tim Miller, and Natalie Teats, who passed away in December of 2002; and 6 great-grandchildren, including Drake, Drew, and Dakota Rick of Erie, that enjoy going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Bill’s survivors also include 4 sisters, Anna (Lloyd) Haas, Mt. Carroll, IL, Ella (Lester) Rittmer, Sabula, IA, Kay Gehl, Clinton, IA, Judy Weets, Sabula, IA; and 2 brothers-in-law, Marvin (Nancy) Johnson, Miles, IA, and Keith (Marie) Johnson, Clinton, IA. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Raymond Woodhurst and Edward Woodhurst.
