SAVANNA, Ill. — Bernadine L. Reibel, age 92, from Savanna, Illinois enjoyed sitting on her front porch looking out onto Chicago Avenue. She died Wednesday October 30, 2013 at Big Meadows Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Savanna. Friends and family are invited to share in Bernadine’s life at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Bernadine was born on June 24, 1921, the daughter of Lee and Berniece (Harris) Griest in Bagley, Wisconsin. She graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1939. Bernadine married Bernard Reibel on June 15, 1941, in Freeport, Illinois. Bernard died January 21, 1999.
After graduating from school Bernadine worked at the Illinois Telephone Company as a telephone operator and later was a homemaker. She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Savanna. Bernadine enjoyed flower gardening, playing euchre, and working through crosswords. She also liked to take walks and attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. Most of all, Bernadine was a loving mother who enjoyed raising her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Bernadine will be dearly missed by her two sons; Ben (Mary Kay) Reibel of Aurora, Illinois and Bill (Francine) Reibel of Trempealeau, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Michael (Bridget) Reibel, DeAnne (Randy) Otto, Tonia (Todd) Wright and B.J. (Kim) Reibel; eight great- grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren. Bernadine is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard and both of her parents.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Savanna. Burial will take place at Savanna Township Cemetery in Savanna. A visitation will be held from 11:30-1:00 p.m., prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Big Meadows Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, the First Presbyterian Church, or Mercy Hospice in Bernadine’s memory.
