---- — James V. Burden

May 23, 1920 - June 18, 2013

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — James V. Burden, age 93, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Trinity West Hospital in Rock Island.

James was born on May 23, 1920 in Albany, IL to Vincent R. and Frances (Devine) Burden. He was a WWII veteran who saw action and participated in D-Day on Omaha Beach. James was a past member of the Albany American Legion Post. He worked as an Ironworker until being injured on the job and was declared disabled. Although he was severely handicapped and walked with two canes, he never complained and continued to lead an active life. James was a very devout Catholic and donated generously to several Catholic churches and organizations. He was a very simple and humble man who believed giving to his church was more important than the luxuries of having material things. James enjoyed his sometimes weekly trips to his home in Elmwood Park, IL with his niece, Mary Elizabeth and Sister Marian Smith, C.H.M. He loved to get out during the day and thanks to his devoted driver and friend, Pam Longfield, he was able to. James was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer in River Forest, IL, but attended St. Pius Catholic Church in Rock Island.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews; Mary Elizabeth (Neil) Earl, James V. (June) Burden, John (Patty) Burden, Joseph Burden, Michael Burden, Vincent (Patrick) Burden, George (Molly) Burden, Thomas (Dawn) Burden, Terry (Shawn) Burden, Rosanne (Jack) Smith, Donald Cline, David Cline, Dana Cline, Debbie Cline, and Dawn (Bob) Burke.

James was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Frances “Pud” Byam, Patricia Aulls, Rita Jean Burden in childhood; brothers, Bernard “Son” Burden and John “Red” Burden and nephews James W. Byam, Dennis James Burden, and John Sean Burden.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Hussain, Dr. Baboo, and Dr. Gajurel at Trinity West Campus in Rock Island, as well as the 6th floor nursing staff for their excellent care and compassion.

Visitation will be Friday, June 21, 2013 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Albany, IL. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M. at the church with Reverend David Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Hill in Fulton, IL.HH
