FULTON, Ill. — Evelyn L. Sterenberg, 95, formerly of Fulton, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at The Alverno, Clinton.
The funeral will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Second Reformed Church, Fulton, with the Rev. Scott Stephan, pastor of Second Reformed Church, officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the service Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Second Reformed Church. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Second Reformed Church.
The Fulton Chapel of the Bosman-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born March 31, 1919 in Fulton to Peter J. and Abbie (Balk) Wiersema. Evelyn attended Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1937 graduate of Fulton High School. She married Paul G. Sterenberg on October 22, 1946 in Fulton. He died April 30, 2005.
Evelyn was first employed by Fulton Finance Company for three years. She then was employed in the Investment Department of the former Fidelity Life Insurance Association, Fulton, for 15 years.
She was a member of Second Reformed Church and the church’s Ladies Mission Circle, Senior Choir and Adult Sunday School class. She served as the church’s organist for 42 years. She was a charter member of T.O.P.S. IL 896, Fulton.
She enjoyed visiting family and grandchildren, reading Christian novels, doing old fashioned book work, Bible reading and study and going to church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Stevenson of Clinton; two grandchildren, Rachel Barlow and Jason Barlow; and six great-grandchildren, Alexandria “Lexi” Barlow, Angela Galant, Molly Galant, Ty Barlow, Layla Barlow, Denny Barlow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul.
