CHADWICK, Ill. — Josephine Margaret Boelkins, age 87 of Chadwick, Illinois died at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Evangelical Free Church, Chadwick. Burial will take place in Chadwick Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, June 20, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Chadwick. Memorials may be given to the Evangelical Free Church or the Chadwick Fire Department in Josephine’s memory. Friends and family are invited to share in Josephine’s life at

Josephine was born on May 13, 1927, the daughter of Peter and Flora (Huen) Temple at home in Fenton, Illinois. After high school, Josephine married Bernard Boelkins on May 13, 1948 in Fenton. Bernard died on March 4, 1992 in Sterling, Illinois.

Josephine worked for General Electric in Morrison, Illinois for twenty years before retiring. She also farmed with her husband, Bernard for over twenty years. Josephine was a longtime member of the Evangelical Free Church, Chadwick. She was active in several church functions, especially with S.A.L.T. women’s missionary. Josephine loved collecting cardinals and was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. She also enjoyed embroidering and completing puzzles. She enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays and taking care of her flowers. Most of all, Josephine cherished spending time with her family and friends.

Josephine will be dearly missed by five children, Lola Diehl of Milledgeville, Illinois, Larry (Sue) Boelkins of Chadwick, Linda (Mark) Remmers of Chadwick, Kent Boelkins of Chadwick and Kevin Boelkins of Chadwick; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty (Bill) Schaver of Fulton, Illinois, Genevieve (Harlan) Tiesman of Fulton, Illinois and Beverly (Jim) Naftzger of Erie, Illinois; one brother in-law, Bert Merema of Fulton and a special friend, Tom Scidmore.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Flora Temple; husband, Bernard; one brother, Louis (Marilyn) Temple; two sisters, Florence (Al) Buis and Marion Merema; one granddaughter, Amy Sue Boelkins and one son in-law, Don Diehl.
