Marie L. Jones, age 83, of Clinton, died Monday May 6, 2013 at her home and George W. Jones, age 89, of Clinton died Thursday May 9, 2013 at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A joint memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday May 14th at the Pape Funeral Home. A visitation will be held Tuesday at noon until the service hour at the funeral home. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Family requests no flowers; memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Research. Online condolences may be left at

Marie was born on Feb. 26, 1930 in Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Louise (Toney) Owens. She married George Jones on Oct. 5, 1946 in Fort Leavenworth, KS. Marie worked at the Clinton Tie Factory and A.C. Nielsen Co. for 25 years, where she retired. She enjoyed writing in her daily journal, cro- cheting, loved her children and grandchildren.

George was born on March 10, 1924 in Van Wert, IA, the son of George and Dolly (Collins) Jones. George served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-1946. He married Marie Owens on Oct. 5, 1946 in Fort Leavenworth, KS. George worked as a millwright at Clinton Corn from 1951-1975 and as a custodian for Clinton Community Schools for over 10 years, when he retired.

He was a life- long Democrat, a lifetime mem- ber of the Eagles Club, and a member of the AMVETS. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching west- erns. Marie and George are survived by their three children, Marlin Jones, Doug (Deb) Jones, and Dennis (Donna) Jones all of Clinton; 6 grand- children, 12 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchil- dren; Marie has a sister, Kay (Terry) Craig of Indianapolis, IN; a half-sister, Eleanor (Gerry) Gage of Osceola, IA; and a half-brother, Larry Owens of Leon, IA.

Marie and George were preceded in death by their parents, two sons, Michael and Russell (Butch), four grandchildren. Marie was also preceded in death by a sister, and two brothers. George was also preceded in death by four sisters and six brothers.
