WAPELLO — Margaret Ann Phillips, age 77, of Wapello, died Saturday evening, July 13, 2013, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
The daughter of Edward B. and Dessa T. Allen Keown, she was born on September 6, 1935 in Cloverport, Kentucky. She married Marion Poole and later married Tony Yates.
Margaret graduated from Tell City High School in Indiana in 1954. She had worked at GE in Tell City and then moved to Clinton, Iowa and worked at Clinton Corn. For many years she did custodial work in private homes in Clinton.
She had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Clinton and also the Red Had Society in Clinton. Margaret enjoyed flower gardening, shopping, dining out with friends, and her passion of housecleaning.
She is survived by her mother, Dessa Keown and friend Gary Brown of Tell City, Indiana; a daughter, Debra and Jerry Snyder of Wapello; a son, Dan Yates of Muscatine; 3 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a brother, John Keown of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father; a stillborn daughter, Penny; and a sister, Katherine Bauer.
The funeral ceremony for Margaret Phillips will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Chaplain Dean Graber officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. The family will gather and meet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the funeral.
A memorial fund is established for the benefit of the Great River Hospice.
