NORMAL, Ill. — Mae E. Schmidt, 90, a resident of Normal, IL, formerly a longtime resident of Davenport, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Heritage Manor, Normal.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division, Davenport. Burial will take place in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. There will be additional visitation Monday in the gathering space of church from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m.

Mae E. Van Vuren - Roe was born on September 4, 1922 in Garden Plain, Illinois, a daughter of Joel and Anna (Keefe) Van Vuren. Mae graduated in 1942 from St. Mary’s High School in Clinton, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Lelon “Lee” Schmidt on September 13, 1947. They have shared over 65 years of marriage together.

Mae worked as a cashier in the Davenport Community School District for many years. She was an active member of Our Lady of Victory.

Mae enjoyed walking, reading, going on vacations but most of all spending time with her family and friends. Her kindness and selflessness were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church or OSF Hospice (211 N. Landmark Dr. Suite D3, Normal, IL 61761)

Mae is survived by her husband, Lee, Normal, IL; children and their spouses: Mike (Cathy) Schmidt, Carbondale, IL, Greg (JoAnne) Schmidt, Jacksonville, FL, Jim (Patti) Schmidt, East Moline, IL, and Yvonne (Dave) Fahringer, Lexington, IL; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Fred Roe, Clinton, IA, and Bud Roe, Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Katherine.
