FULTON, Ill. — Robert D. Dykema, 80, of Fulton, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at his home.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with the Pastor Tom Loyola, Evangelical Free Church, Clinton, IA, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded. Interment will be at the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Christian School, Fulton, IL, Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL and Riverbend Senior Center, Fulton, IL.
Robert was born August 25, 1932, in Whiteside County, to Richard D. and Dorothy (Renkes) Dykema.
Bob was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1950 graduate of Fulton High School, Fulton, IL.
He married Arlene R. DeWeerdt on March 10, 1951, in Chicago, IL; she survives.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War.
Bob was first employed by the former Curtis Company, Clinton, IA and Clinton Corn Processing Company. He then was employed as medical clinic manager in Davenport, IA. Later he owned and operated D & D Oil Company, Fulton, IL which included bulk fuel trucking and sales. Following retirement, he was a partner in D & R Development.
He was an associate member of Evangelical Free Church, Clinton, IA. He was also a member of the Fulton American Legion Post # 402 and the Advisory Board of Community State Bank, Fulton, IL. He also served as member of the River Bend School Board for several years. Bob was a former member of the Fulton Lions Club and Fulton Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed golfing and spending winters in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene; one daughter, Cathy (Victor) Baca, Henderson, NV; one son, Alan Dykema, Harrisonville, MO; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Justin) Ohman; Elizabeth Ann (Justin) Leach, Ryan Dykema, Ashley Dykema; one great-granddaughter, Lillian Ohman; one sister, Carol (Brook) Stephens, Sioux Center, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
