CLINTON — Henry M. Holmes, 92, of Clinton, passed away, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the home of his daughter in Camanche.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 5, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Clinton. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post 28. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Murphy, Mike Murphy, Christopher Parks, Don Connell, Seth Connell, and Tristan Connell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Parks and Christine Murphy. Henry Melvin Holmes was born on June 1, 1921 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Robert and Ruth (Morehouse) Holmes. He was a 1940 graduate of Clinton High School.
He married Madalynne Leslie on August 10, 1942 in Clinton; she died July 8, 2007.
Henry enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and served from 1942-1945.
Henry was a switchman-foreman with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 32 years retiring in 1981.
Henry was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clinton, VFW, and the Clinton Moose Lodge. He and his wife were active in the Avion Travel Club.
Henry is survived by his two daughters: Carolyn Parks of Ogunquit, Maine, and Kay (Thomas) Murphy of Camanche; one son, David Holmes of Clinton; five grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother: Rev. John (Charlotte) Holmes of Hilo, Hawaii, sister: Edith (Ron) Knee of Concord, New Hampshire; and sister-in-law: Clara Holmes of Hayden, Alabama.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Bob.
