Hubert M-P Comminge

March 22, 1934 - April 19, 2014

NORTH SPRINGFIELD, Va. — Hubert M-P Comminge, age 80, of North Springfield, Virginia, passed away April 19, 2014 at his home.

A Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Prince of Peace Parish. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military rites by the AMVETS. The Pape Funeral Home assisted the family.

Hubert was born on March 22, 1934 in Verdun, France. He came to the United States at the age of 13. He graduated from P.K. Yonge High School in Gainesville, FL. From 1953 to 1955 he served on active duty with the U.S. Army. He entered the Army as a French citizen and finished as an American citizen. In January 1960 he graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was hired by Boeing in Seattle and later went to work at the Rock Island Arsenal where he met his lovely wife, Vivian Proulx. They married on May 8, 1965 in Davenport.

In 1966 the Department of Army offered him a position with the Mobility Equipment, Research and Development Command at Ft. Belvoir, VA. During his employment there, he received numerous commendation and awards, among them a Technological Achievement Award and Leadership Achievement Award. He retired in 1993. For five years thereafter, he volunteered at the Alexandria INOVA Hospital.

Hubert was an avid stamp collector who enjoyed gardening, bird watching, meteorology, national and international traveling and fine cuisine. He had a reputation for being a tough negotiator, but it was said, he always left with a smile.

Hubert and Vivian were longtime parishioners at St. Michael Church in Annandale, VA, where they were very active in the church. He was greatly loved and will be terribly missed by his church and family.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, Monsieur et Madame Lucien Comminge, his wife Vivian, cousins and nephews.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Marcella Bundy of Clinton and Marie Proulx (Gerry) of Alexandria, VA; his brother-in-law Lt. Col. Jack Morris of Centerville, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. Lord, may his soul rest in eternal peace.
