ALBANY, Ill. — Evelyn “Evie” J. Van Zuiden, 75, of Albany, died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at her home.
Born December 4, 1937 in Clinton, Iowa, she was a daughter of Peter H. and Henrietta “Etta” (Eissens) Wiersema. On October 5, 1956 she was united in marriage to Willard D. Van Zuiden in Fulton.
Evie worked as a secretary for Van Zuiden Trucking for 34 years. Prior to that, she worked at Fidelity Life in Fulton, and Harbor Crest Nursing Home.
Evie was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Willard, of Albany; a daughter, Denise (Robert) Smither of Albany; 2 sons, Roger (Lori) Van Zuiden of LaPorte, Indiana and Todd (Paula) Van Zuiden of Albany; a sister, Dorothy (Jay) Van Zuiden of Fulton; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers, Harvey, Lauren, Harold and Arnold Wiersema.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Fulton. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Melody Williams and Pastor Barbara Isaacs, co-officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fulton Township Cemetery.
