PRESTON — Fern Ella Rose Miller, age 87, of Preston, Iowa died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Mercy Living Center North in Clinton, Iowa.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston. Burial will be at Miles Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. A visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. Condolences may be left for the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Fern was born June 29, 1926, the daughter of Waller and Pearl (Daniels) Meyer, in Preston. She attended Preston Schools and graduated Preston High School in the Class of 1944.
Fern married Wesley Miller on June 8, 1945. They had met while attending a dance at Conners Tap in Goose Lake. They shared 42 years together. Wesley died October 11, 1987.
Fern worked at Wayne and Vera’s Café, Schmidt’s Café, Vera’s Goose Lake Tap, and Orva’s Hide-Away. She was member of the Preston Saddle Club and the Red Hat Ladies Society. She was in the Eagles Club of the Maquoketa Auxiliary. Fern enjoyed playing cards and going to the boat. She was a member of St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston.
Fern will be dearly missed by her daughter Darlene (R. David) Liles of Preston; four sons, Darlis Miller of Bellevue, Delbert (Diane) Miller, Darwin Miller and David (Joyce) Miller, all of Preston; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one sister, Orva Webster of Preston, and one brother Wayne (Bonnie) Meyer of Kansas City, Kansas.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley; her parents, Waller and Pearl; a son, David Frederick Miller; three sisters Erma Ringen, Vera Graves, and Edna Cook; one brother Archie Meyer; a daughter in-law, Paulette Miller; and four brothers-in-law, Wilbur Ringen, Tom Graves, Babe Webster and Paul Cook.
