---- — FULTON, Ill. — Frederick R. Berg, age 83, died Thursday at his home in Fulton, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Tuesday, April 30th at Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton, IL. The Rev. David Austin will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Fulton. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Calvary Hill Catholic Cemetery in Fulton. Pallbearers will be Tony Kuebel, Greg Donoho, Ray Zimmerman, Luke Vander Bleek, Terry Tufty and Jim Fitzpatrick. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Field, Richard Feldpausch and Bill Mungen. Following the graveside service, a luncheon will be served in the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall.

Fred was born June 1, 1929, in Bloomer, Wisconsin to George and Elizabeth (Dietsche) Berg. He attended St. Paul’s Catholic School in Bloomer and the Bloomer High School. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin College of Pharmacy. After graduation he served with distinction in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corp of the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the KMAG (Korean Military Advisory Group). He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Campaign Stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

Fred married Jane Fitzpatrick on July 9, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Church in Delmar, Iowa. He was the clinic pharmacist at the Sterling-Rock Falls Clinic from 1961-1970. In 1970 he moved to Fulton where he owned and operated Berg Pharmacy until 1986. He also worked as the hospital pharmacist at Morrison Community Hospital and owned Fitzgerald Pharmacy for five years in Morrison. He was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Fulton Country Club and served on the board when the club was first organized. He enjoyed golfing, photography, traveling and spending time with his family.

Fred is survived by his wife, Jane Berg, of Fulton and 3 children: Thomas (Mary Therese) of Green Bay, WI; William (Elizabeth) of Indianapolis, IN; and Daniel (Mary Anne) of Iowa City; and 5 grandchildren (Tom, Katie, and Nick Berg of Indianapolis and Stephen and Michael Berg of Iowa City). Also surviving is a brother Roger Berg (Laguna Niguel, California) and a sister, Beverly Boetcher, of Bloomer, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by 7 siblings (brothers Robert, Leonard, and Donald and sisters Jeanette, Alice, Florence, and Esther).

Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Church or Mercy Hospice.
