DIXON, Ill. — Michael A Schrauth, age 85, of Dixon, died Sunday May 5, 2013 at Heritage Square Health Center in Dixon.

He was born March 7, 1928 in Geneva, IL the son of Victor and Theresa (Connolley) Schrauth. He had worked for Kroger Corporation, Mechanical Merchants and Canteen Corporation before founding Sauk Valley Vending in Dixon in 1967 retiring earlier this year.

He was a veteran of the US Army Reserves serving from 1945 to 1957. He was a member of Dixon American Legion Post 12, NRA, Dixon Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and had served on the KSB Hospital Building Committee.

Mike served on the Lee County Board for 20 years and was a longtime Chairman of the County Finance Committee. He was also a long time member of the Northwest Illinois Criminal Justice Commission currently serving as Secretary/Treasurer.

He was a member of St Patrick Catholic Church and served as a lector, cantor, choir member and had served on many church committees. He was also a member of and Past Grand Knight of Dixon Knights of Columbus Council 690 and was a member of the Fr. Boland Assembly of the 4th Degree.

Mike married Patricia Long June 12, 1954 in Joliet, IL.

He is survived by his wife, son John “Jack” (Shelly) Schrauth of Dixon, daughter Kati (Steve) Heysinger of Clinton, IA, 5 grandchildren Kathryn (Adam) Bohlen, Laura Schrauth, Jennifer Schrauth, Chris Mullen, Greg Heysinger, 2 great grandsons Aaron John Bohlen and Caleb Michael Bohlen, brothers Victor (Anne) Schrauth of Lancaster, Calif., and William Schrauth of Batavia, sisters Mary Imhoff of Kissimmee, Florida and Ellyn (John) Stewart of Batavia.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 9, 2013 beginning with a 10:00 a.m. prayer service at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernard Sehr officiating. Burial with military honors by the Combined Veterans Group will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
