PORT BYRON, Ill. — Luther H. Pearsall, 93, of Port Byron, IL, died Friday, November 15, 2013 at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport.
Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 19th, at the Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a Masonic Lodge Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Port Byron Congregational Church or the River Valley District Library.
Luther was born October 11, 1920 in Moline, IL, the son of Charles and Hazel (Schenk) Pearsall. He married Helen Carsten on October 9, 1960 in McCausland, IA. Luther served his country during WWII in the 438th Motor Vehicle Ammunition Company in the European Theater.
He retired from a career at the Rock Island Arsenal and then went to work at the Brinkman Lumber Yard in Port Byron and lastly worked at Golden Harvest.
Luther was a member of the Coe Lamb American Legion Post #421, Port Byron, and the former Rapids City VFW #8295. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley, Moline, and was a past Master of the Philo Masonic Lodge #436 Port Byron, Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, Port Byron, and a Rainbow Dad. Luther was a member at the Congregational Church, Port Byron, and served there as a Deacon and Trustee.
He enjoyed gardening, especially growing strawberries and popcorn. As an avid sports fan he followed the QC Mallards, Chicago Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events.
Luther is survived by his wife, Helen of Ridgecrest Village, Davenport; daughters, Teresa Pearsall, Port Byron, Nancy (Kurt) Fier, Clinton; grandchildren, Darrin (Kari) Pearsall, Port Byron, Katy Fier, Annie Fier; a brother-in-law, Terry Carsten, Phoenix, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and a brother.
