CLINTON — Marla M. Templeton-Oates, 50, of Clinton, Iowa passed away on November 18th, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center- North.
Cremation rites will be accorded with a private funeral service taking place at a later date. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21st, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). Burial will be private. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marla was born February 5th, 1963 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Ronald and Georgia (Archer) Templeton. She was a 1981 graduate of Clinton High School. Marla was united in marriage to Orlie “Jay” Oates on October 30th, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Marla worked at Target, as manager, for fourteen years. She loved her family and loved organizing family events and gatherings. She also enjoyed tracing her family lineages and history through her genealogy research.
Recently she loved spending time on her newest hobby, working with ceramics. However, Marla’s true passion was looking after the well being of animals; this is supported by rescuing and keeping her nine cats. She was a loyal and faithful supporter of animal shelters. She loved reading and listening to country music. Above all she was always drawn back to helping people, especially her family.
She was a good and kind-hearted person who would always put those in need ahead of herself — she was the glue that held everyone together. She loved her nieces and nephews as much as her brothers and sisters. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Marla is survived by her husband Jay of Clinton, IA., her mother Georgia Templeton of Clinton, IA.; her brothers and sisters, Trent Templeton of Seattle, WA., Pamela Arnold of Alton, IL., Randy (Pamela) Templeton of Blue Grass, IA., Mark (Deborah) Templeton of Maquoketa, IA., Tracy (Verna) Templeton of Blakesburg, IA., Brian (Deborah) Templeton of Madison, WI., and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father Ronald Templeton and her brother Todd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, 724 W. 2nd Avenue, Milan, Illinois 61264, in Marla’s name or online at http://www.qcawc.org/.
