Robert Paul "RP" Wait, 84, of Fort Wayne IN died January 26, 2013 at St. Anne Home. Funeral services were held Friday, February 1, 2013, in Fort Wayne with military honors. The service concluded with the Iowa Fight Song.
Bob Wait was born July 3, 1928, in Clinton to Perry and Gladys (Potter) Wait. He married Joan Carol Brandt at First Methodist Church in Clinton on September 3, 1960.
He was a graduate of Clinton High School and Clinton Community College. He attended the University of Iowa and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 82.
He was a regional sales manager with Clinton Corn for over 30 years and then worked ten years for Diamond V, Cedar Rapids. He was a 50 year member of Kaaba Shrine. In retirement he volunteered countless hours transporting children from Fort Wayne to Shriner's Hospital for Children in Chicago. As a member of the Shrine Legion of Honor he went to Washington, DC and placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier once a year for fifteen years.
RP had been the patriarch of the Wait family6 since 1986. It was a role he took to heart. He traveled the country to stay connected with his siblings and their families and was always in attendance at their major life events.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; three children, daughter, Gretchen (Rob) Schilb, son Paul (Julie) Wait all of Fort Wayne, and son Jason (Jaqueline) Wait of Ada, OK; five grandchildren, Veronica and Taylor Schilb, Taylon (Karly), Kirstin, and Isabella Wait; two great-grandchildren, Braden and Norah; brothers, Wayne Wait of St. Louis, MO; Jim (Bonnie) Wait of Daytona Beach, FL; sister Marilou Finn of Clinton, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother William S. Wait, Sr.; sisters, Margaret Wolfe, Marilyn Wait, and Coramae Wait; and his father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Nellie Brandt.
Memorials can be made to Shriner's Hospitals for Children according to the wishes of his family.
