Harry R. Echelbarger March 29, 1926 - May 8, 2013

CLINTON — Harry R. Echelbarger, age 87, of Clinton, died Wednesday May 8, 2013 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday May 13th at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Visitation will be

held Sunday 4 – 7 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home and Monday at 10:00 a.m. until the service hour at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Online condo- lences may be left at www.papefh.com.

Harry was born on March 29, 1926 in Clinton, IA, the son of Harry E. and Lillian (Fredrichsen) Echelbarger. He graduat- ed from Lyons High School in 1944 and attended Drake University. He married Barbara Briggs on June 1, 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clinton. Harry was co- owner of the Colorwheel Decorating Center and later sales manager at Carpetland, where he retired in 1990.

Harry was a member of
St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the church council, organized the monthly Men’s Breakfast Club, and participated in many other church committees over the years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Ecumenical Housing Authority as

Vice-President. He was a past member of the Kiwanis, Clinton Builders Club, and YMCA.

Harry is survived by his wife, Barbara of Clinton; three children, Rev. David L. Echelbarger (the Rev. Christine Thomas- Echelbarger) of Mount Pleasant, WI, Dana (Sally) Echelbarger of Muscatine, IA, and Christy (Mike) Cannon of Clinton; 6 grandchil- dren and 3 great grand- children; and a brother, Robert Echelbarger of Mason City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William, and two sister-in-laws, Shirley and Dorothy.
