DELMAR — Joseph P. McCloy, 80, of Delmar, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.
His funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Delmar, Iowa. Family and friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Delmar, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Delmar, Iowa with military honors. Lahey Funeral Service in Maquoketa is assisting the family.
He graduated from Delmar High School. He was united in marriage to Madonna Steines on September 13, 1958 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook, Iowa. He served with honor in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a proud American.
He was a supervisor in earlier years at Clinton Engines. Joe owned and operated McCloy Electric in Delmar for over forty years retiring in 1999 and for J & M Travel which he and his wife operated for 20 years during retirement. He loved to travel, enjoyed being around his family and being around people. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Delmar. Joe was the caretaker at St. Patrick’s Cemetery for many years. He was a member of the Delmar Fire Department, Timber City American Legion Post #75, a past member of the Delmar Lions Club, and an avid Cubs fan.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 55 years, Madonna of Delmar, six children: Shirley McCloy of Cedar Rapids, Marlene McCloy of Delmar, JoLynn (Randy) Grashorn of Omaha, Nebraska, John (Susan) McCloy of DeWitt, Patrick (Kathy) McCloy of Maquoketa, Francis (Jennifer) McCloy of Lisbon; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruth Gerlach of Delmar, Mary Frondel of Sabula; brothers and sister-in-laws, Shirley and Arletta McCloy, Richard (Betty) Fleege, Harold (Iona) Koppes, Roger (Jan) Steines, Gary (Mary Jo) Beohm, Robert (Kelma) Michels, Larry (Patty) Steines, Gwendola Till, Darlene Sieverding, Bonnie Charboneau, Sister Shirley Steines, SSND, and Marlene Steines.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, four brother-n-laws, one sister-in-law. A Joe McCloy memorial fund has been established.
