CLINTON — Margery M. Johnson, age 83, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Mercy Living Center North. 

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Pape Funeral Home. Private services will be held Monday with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Ben Johnson, Brad and Eric Spittler, Jason Weller, Dan and Jared Determan, Brandon Gray and Jeremy Sweely.

Margery was born in Clinton on February 28, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Marion (Nielsen) Marx. She attended Clinton schools and went back to high school and graduated in 1968 with her son Ron and daughter Kay.

Margery married Carl Johnson on June 6, 1948 in Clinton. Carl passed away on May 13, 2003. Margery was employed with G.E. in Morrison and later as a librarian at Horace Mann School. She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, a member of the PTA and was also Brownie Leader. Margery loved to cook, sew, spend time with family, and tell stories of when she was growing up.

Margery is survived by her 5 children: Kay (Dick) Spittler, Donna (Robert) Wagemester, Vicki (Teri Myers) Johnson, Lori Johnson and Brian (Noreen) Johnson all of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis (Keith) Jensen and Joyce Ball both of Clinton; two brothers, Wayne “Harpo” Marx of Port Charlotte, FL and Russell Marx of Denton, TX and a sister-in-law, Dr. Geneva Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Ronald; a grandson, Christopher and a brother Lowell. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Miracle Network or the University of Iowa Hospitals.
