FULTON, Ill. — Stanley Borgman, 87, of Clinton and formerly of Fulton, Ill., died Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Alverno Health Care Center, Clinton, IA.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Second Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, with the Rev. Scott Stephan, Pastor: the Second Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Stan Borgman Gymnasium of Fulton High School, 1207 12th Street, Fulton, IL. The Fulton chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Interment is at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL. Memorials may be made to the Stan Borgman Scholarship Fund, Riverbend Educational Foundation, Second Reformed Church, Fulton, IL.

Stan was born April 12, 1926 in Pella, IA to Worp E. and Wilhimenia (Van Rheenen) Borgman.

Stan was educated in the rural Pella, IA grade schools and 1943 graduate of Pella High School, Pella, IL. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Christian College, Pella, IA in 1949 and Master of Arts from Drake University, Des Moines, IA in 1955.

He married Jeanne Borgman on August 19, 1948 in Englewood, IL; she survives.

Stan was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II.

Stan was employed as teacher and basketball coach at Hedrick High School, Hedrick, IA from 1949 – 1951, Pella High School, Pella, IA from 1951 – 1958, Fulton High School, Fulton, IL from 1958 until retiring in 1985. Stan’s coaching career spanned 33 years; 2 years at Hedrick, IA with 30 wins and 12 losses, 7 years at Pella, IA with 104 wins and 55 losses and 24 years at Fulton, IL with 394 wins and 215 losses. A career record of 528 wins and 282 losses. His 500th win occurred January 11, 1980 against Erie with Fulton winning 61 to 53.

Stan was elected to the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980. After retirement he owned and operated Borgman Painting Company until 2008.

Stan was a member of the Second Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, served as elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was also a member of the Fulton Kiwanis Club and member and past president of Riverbend Educational Foundation. Stan served on the Board of Directors of Camp Manitoqua, Frankfort, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; one daughter, Jayne (Rick) Rempes, Beavercreek, OH; three sons, James (Jean) Borgman, Owatonna, MN, John Borgman, Fulton, IL, David (Kim) Borgman, Clinton, IA; daughter-in-law, ReNee Borgman, Fulton, IL; seaven grandchildren, Joshua (Lindsey) Smith; Claire (Brandon) Livingood and Peter Borgman; Devin, Demi and Isabel Borgman; Madison Borgman; two great-grandchildren, Braxton Smith, Elliana Smith; three brothers, Howard Borgman, Marysville, MI, Glenn (Shirley) Borgman, Pella, IA, Dr. Robert (Ann) Borgman, Clear Lake, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joyce Barker.
