CLINTON — Michael R. “Mike” Thomas, age 59, of Clinton, died Wednesday September 4, 2013 at DeWitt Community Hospital after a courageous six year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday September 7, 2013 at the Pape Funeral Home. The Rev. Scott Nesbitt of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be his sons, Christopher and Richard Thomas, Gary Pals, Doug Peters, Mark Petersen and Troy Lohberg.
Mike was born on October 1, 1953 in Clinton, IA, the son of Richard and Waltraude (Vottler) Thomas. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1972. He married Debra Linder on December 1, 1973 in Clinton. He worked at Nestle Purina in product safety for over 31 years. Mike had a love for his family and his grandchildren. He was a jack of all trades, working around his home and yard. He enjoyed working on and restoring cars, especially his 1980 Z28 Camaro.
Mike is survived by his wife, Deb of Clinton; two sons, Christopher (Carrie) Thomas of Clinton and Richard (Addi) Thomas of Clinton; two grandchildren, Allen and Maci: and two sisters, Heidi (David) Burn of Camanche and Patricia Thomas of Clinton; and a nephew, Heiko Thomas.
