DAVENPORT — Funeral services to celebrate the life of Irene A. Huncke, 94, a resident of Silvercrest Garner Assisted Living were held Thursday, November 14, 2013 in the All Faith Chapel at the Halligan–McCabe -DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Pastor Karen Ullestad of Zion Lutheran Church was the celebrant. Burial will be Friday, November 15, 2013 at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa. The family greeted friends Thursday at the funeral home.
Irene died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Irene Adabelle Holtz was born April 13, 1919, in Delmar, Iowa a daughter of Louis Carl Fredrick and Marjorie Ethel (Weeman) Holtz. She graduated from Clinton High School, Clinton, Iowa.
Irene was united in marriage to Douglas E. Huncke on March 2, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2001.
She had been a member of the Lutheran faith and formerly a BPOE Does.
Irene’s passion was golf; she was blessed to have five holes-in-one during her years of golfing and had won several club tournaments. She and Douglas had been active members of the Millburn Country Club, Overland Park, Kansas. She also enjoyed cards and was talented in counted cross stitch and crocheting.
Memorials are suggested to the Douglas and Irene Huncke School of Design Scholarship c/o the Iowa State University Foundation.
Those left to honor her memory include two sisters, Helen (Hubert) Testroet, Davenport and Deloris Rowson, Fulton, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Clyde Holtz and Donald Holtz. May they rest in peace.
