CAMANCHE — Robert D. Sanders, 93, of Camanche, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Mercy Living Center – North.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Camanche VFW. Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Camanche Volunteer Fire Department. Robert Dale Sanders was born on May 15, 1920 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Harry and Marie (Campie) Sanders. He married Betty Barnett on August 12, 1944 in Waynesville, Missouri; she recently died on April 29, 2013.
Robert was a graduate of Camanche High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. He was employed at ADM from 1947-1979. He served on the Camanche Volunteer Fire Department for many years and served as Fire Chief from 1963-1964.
Robert was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Camanche and the Camanche VFW serving as past commander. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Robert is survived by one son: Harry (Bonnie) Sanders of Clinton; three grandchildren: Connie (Andy) McFarland, Wendy Jungen, Joe Jungen; 5 great-grandchildren: Hailie Jungen, Isaiah Jungen, Lexie Jungen, Elizabeth McFarland, and Kate McFarland; one brother: Robert L. Sanders of Missouri, two sisters: Helen Hallock of Orlando, Florida, and Jean Diss of Clinton.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, one daughter, two brothers, and five sisters.
