Long-term loss can be prevented by planning

Thank you to the large number of Clinton residents who came to the open house, informational presentation and tour at the former Ashford Campus last week.

Those who attended heard from owner Brian Clem and Joe Zhou, who represents Confucius International Educational Group. Brian gave a history of efforts over the last 21/2 years to repurpose the campus.

The highlight of the event was the introduction of six international students who told the crowd their names and their areas of concentration, which include math, technology and dance. They were an impressive group of students. Adding students like these to our classrooms and community will be enriching.

“Amazing” was the most common reaction that I heard from those who toured the campus.

I think it truly excited everyone who visited the top-notch science labs to realize that high school students will be able to use this facility.

I have worked hard on this project because it will be a win for:

n The Clinton School District.

n The Clinton-area economy.

n Clinton Community College.

n Local employers who need skilled workers.

n Current and future residents who want to revitalize Clinton and make it an even better place to work, live and raise a family.

Our work will continue because there are additional opportunities to use the rest of the campus for career tech, community college programs and possible four-year degree classes.
