Animal Birth Control has done many good things for the Clinton community related to its specific mission — preventing unwanted animal pregnancies. In fact, it just received a $5,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to increase its number of spay/neuter operations by 36 percent.

However, ABC also has done other things for the community relative to pets, including the annual pet show it sponsors at the Ericksen Community Center. Its newest venture is to sponsor a community wide cleanup effort of the Clinton recreational trail.

ABC has asked volunteers to meet near the Ninth Avenue North boat ramp at 9 a.m. Saturday. All they need to bring is shovels, bags and a work ethic.

We think this is a great idea, and only wish someone had thought of it sooner. The trail is one of Clinton’s prized possessions, and keeping it nice is a difficult task. We also know some people have taken it upon themselves to work toward that goal, and we admire them, too. We just hope having ABC behind the effort will bring a spectacular turnout.
