Today’s the day — there are two fun community events going on that no doubt will be fun for all. One, the first-ever Fall Festival on Fifth, is taking place in downtown Clinton. The festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the 300 block of Fifth Avenue South and will celebrate the fall season, which officially starts Tuesday, and highlight downtown Clinton.

The event will include a chili cook-off, a craft fair, food, entertainment, a dunk tank, a pie-eating contest in three age categories, a Guitar Hero contest, prizes, a children’s craft tent, a petting zoo and a children’s fun zone modeled after an ice cream social.

The other event, Paint the Town, will happen across the river and east on U.S. 30 in Morrison, Ill. It also will take place in that city’s downtown, where 1,500 squares have been mapped out on Main Street for people to paint their creations. This is the 15th year for that event, which also includes music, food and fun for the entire family.

Today will be a great day to get out and enjoy either of these events.

Here’s hoping that many of our readers can do just that and take time to connect with fun, family and all that our area has to offer.
