Throughout the year, numerous events, such as festivals, fairs and concerts, are hosted in Clinton and the surrounding area.

They may take place over an afternoon, a night or multiple days, but no doubt each one is only successful because of the volunteers who help plan, set up, oversee and clean up.

Volunteerism also is noted in services offered to residents as they live out their everyday lives, such as the greeter at the hospital, the woman leading a tour at a museum or the man helping senior citizens prepare tax returns.

A few years back, we at the Clinton Herald each week printed a list of organizations looking for volunteers, knowing that sometimes people want to get involved but aren’t sure where their talents are needed or how to go about signing up.

We want to do that again because we believe that volunteering not only makes the community better, but is a positive outlet for those looking for something to do to help out.

If you have a group that is looking for volunteers, please send us that information by mail to the Clinton Herald, 221 Sixth Ave. South, Clinton IA, 52733, or by email to news@clintonherald.com. Include the name of the organization, the person to contact and their telephone number or email address, and a brief description of the group’s mission.

To those who already help — and there are many of them — thank you.

And to those who would like to do so, we hope our upcoming list will put you on that path.
