We’re proud to have our community college

Each year since 2003, Clinton Community College has celebrated April’s Community College Month — and we’re glad to be a part of it.

Yesterday, we published the first of five weekly editorials that will showcase the impact the college has had on the area, residents who’ve attended the school and the benefits to the local workforce as the result of its presence.

The theme of the month is “Connections” — a fitting theme when one considers the connections the school has to the community at large.

The reason for the college’s success — and the connections it has provided over the years — comes down to a quality, affordable education that fits easily into a person’s life no matter what the daily schedule — whether that student is fresh out of high school. in the workforce and looking to brush up on skills, or a busy full-time worker and parent trying to forge a new career path.

The college’s enrollment has grown to just under 1,400 students in its credit programs with an additional 13,000 in continuing education offerings. Its GED programs offer students an opportunity to earn their high school diploma while programs in the arts and science assist students with their first two years of college. Career and technical programs work to offer students the skills needed to be successful in the workplace.

Employees in area industries participate in training through the workplace and there are courses for those individuals who want to continue their learning through the Community Education Department. Partnerships with area high schools have allowed the college to work with students to assist them in beginning their college career while still in high school.

We are proud and grateful to have a community college of such caliber right here in Clinton. Congratulations on your continued success and thanks to all who have supported the college’s mission as it remains connected to this community.
