Take me out the ball game

— Today is a special day for those who love their baseball and want to cheer on their local team: The Clinton LumberKings will open their season today at Alliant Energy Field against the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
The players have arrived and the stadium is getting ready for the faithful who turn out to support their team, a Class A farm club of the Texas Rangers.
It will be an interesting year no doubt. Each season brings a new slate of players and with it a new personality, be it a team that seems to be in an eternal slump or a championship contender.
Of course, we are wishing for the latter.
We also are hoping that attendance starts out with a bang and maintains itself throughout the season to give our players the lift they need at just the right time.
So get the family and go to the ball park for tonight’s game at 7 or to see any other game during the stand with the Kernels. If you’ve never done it before, you’ll enjoy a family friendly event in a beautifully remodeled stadium along Clinton’s riverfront.
