Paint the Town volunteers did a great job

Saturday was a beautiful day in downtown Morrison, Ill. The skies were sunny, the temperatures, not too hot or too cold, and the streets were ready for painting.

And painted they were. A total of 1,200 squares were evenly marked on Morrison’s Main Street and streets that intersect that thoroughfare as part of the city’s Paint the Town celebration.

The event began in 1994, growing from a few hundred squares to the number laid out Saturday.

As families and friends painted the scene of their choice, musicians played a wide variety of music, a magician strolled the streets and kids were lined up waiting for a creation from a balloon sculptor.

The streets continued to be closed Sunday so residents could look at the painted squares without having to dart in and out of traffic. A car show was set up in the downtown area as well, with 115 vehicles shown over multiple downtown blocks.

This is a huge volunteer effort and one that pays rich dividends for Morrison residents as they reconnect with family and friends for a weekend of fun and for visitors who want to do something different in a town known for its old-time charm.

Congratulations to the volunteers who work so hard to make this happen.
