Local election counts on you to get out and vote

Clinton Herald Editorial

Tomorrow is the day.

From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., residents will have the opportunity to head to the polls and choose which candidates they wish to have represent them.

In Clinton, we are seeing a City Council contest that could change the makeup of more than half the council. And we are seeing contested races — something that has not always been the case.

Here are your candidates:

Five candidates are vying for two At-Large seats up for grabs. One of those seats will be uncontested after Bette Oakley announced she would not seek re-election. The candidates are Ron Mallicoat, Mike Drury, Jennifer Graf, Ben Luckritz and Charles Mulholland.

In the First Ward, Bob Soesbe will face challenger Margaret Klaes. The Third Ward features longtime councilman Darrell Smith against former First Ward Councilwoman Beverly Hermann.

Here are your polling places:

• First Ward: 1st precinct: First United Methodist Church. 2nd precinct: Chancy Lutheran Church.

• Second Ward: 1st precinct: First Presbyterian Church. 2nd precinct: Graphic Arts Center.

• Third Ward: 1st precinct: Courthouse. 2nd precinct: Ericksen Center.

• Fourth Ward: 1st precinct: Administration building. 2nd precinct: Church of the Open Door.

Now it is up to each resident to get out and vote, something you can do even if you are not yet registered — you can do so at the polls.

So get out there and let your voice be heard.

After all, if you don’t vote, you really don’t have the right to complain about the results or the actions that will follow.
