Help the Victory Center help others this holiday

Clinton Herald Editorial

It’s Thanksgiving Week and our thoughts are turning toward sitting down at the table with our families. A turkey is on the table as are all the trimmings. Heads are bowed, prayers of thankfulness are said and everyone shares a great meal and good conversation.

At least that’s how the scene would look on the front of a greeting card.

But for many that is not how their holiday plans will unfold. Maybe they have no family, an empty bank account and no place to call home.

It is the mission of the Victory Center to provide for those in such circumstances. At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the center will once again host its annual Thanksgiving dinner.

It’s a huge undertaking every year, and is carried out through donations of food and volunteers who cook and serve the meal to hundreds.

This year, with the current economic struggles being faced far and wide, organizers believe there will be a groundswell of people who will turn out for the event, leading them to ask for donations of turkeys, hams and cash to make sure there is enough food.

Every year, organizers and volunteers give of themselves to host this meal. Here's hoping that those who can are able to support their call for assistance to make this Thanksgiving happy for one and all.
