This letter is in regard to the Letter to the Editor that was printed in the Clinton Herald by Harlan Meyers of DeWitt.
His question was have you ever heard of any school superintendent taking a cut in pay during a budget crunch? Yes. I had heard that the Maquoketa School District superintendent had taken a pay cut.
On March 2, 2012 I contacted the school district and talked to his administrative assistants and they verified it. They told me that he had taken a 3 percent cut after the 2002-2003 school year. Then in 2009-2010 and also in 2010-2011 he reimbursed the school district $6,000 each year out of his pay to save his school district. This proves he cares about his school district. I do not understand why other school superintendents do not follow in his footsteps rather than raising property taxes and closing school buildings.
