The Honor Flight of the Quad-Cities is now accepting applications from veterans of both World War II and the Korean War. Dates fot the flights in 2012 are April 24, May 22, Sept. 20 and Nov. 1.
I was privileged to make an Honor Flight and it was an awesome experience. It was especially good to be with veterans with whom we could share memories and view the memorials in Washington and newfound buddies. The Honor Flights are about the best organized trip you will ever experience. Many of the veterans of our group had disabilities of various sort but they were able to enjoy the trip because every problem had a solution. Many were in wheelchairs.
You would not believe the welcome back we received at the airport in Moline, Ill. It was great. Applications for the trip are available at the Veterans Affairs Office at the County Administration Building or at the Clinton County Historical Museum at 601 S. First St.
To repeat, there will be four Honor Flights to Washington, D.C., this year. If you are a veteran of World War II or the Korean War get an application and fill it out. If the veteran is your dad or mother, grandfather, grandmother, uncle or aunt or friend, get an application for him or her and talk your veteran into taking the Honor Flight.
