Mayor Mark Vulich and council members Paul Gassman, Bev Hermann and Maggie Klaes are a disgrace to our community.
I am stunned and sickened by their irresponsible and childish actions concerning the Clinton Humane Society and denying the approval to contract with the shelter and the approval of an ad hoc committee that would inventively save the city money long term.
This is a clear reminder why I did not nor do I support Mr. Vulich as mayor. Mr. Gassman doesn’t seem to have much to say, Maggie Klaes doesn’t know what to say and Ms. Hermann is concerned with numbers.
What is so hard to figure out?
There are more animals being euthanized than adopted, reclaimed or sent to rescue due to many reasons.
How about the fact that there are more people buying dogs and cats from irreputable breeders than adopting. All animals at the Clinton Humane Society are behavior tested before they can be placed in homes so the Humane Society is not liable for adopting a pet with any dog/cat aggression, food aggression, toy aggression and to make sure that the animal is going to be good around children. Is that something Dr. Sheryl Ernst has considered?
I have been told that she has been given false information and honestly thought she would be helping the city out when she truly has no idea what she is getting herself into and the negative impact this will have on her business. But isn’t it coincidental that she is the personal vet for Mr. Vulich and other council members?
We also have people not spaying and neutering their pets, which in turn leads to more animals being euthanized. Many owners don’t reclaim for reasons I will never understand. Some people don’t look for their pets when they run away, some don’t want to deal with our Animal Control officer, and some simply don’t care what happens to their pets and leave them at the shelter.
What about diseases and parasites such as parvovirus and ringworm, which are highly contagious and costly to treat. Have you heard of upper respiratory? This is also extremely contagious and spreads like wildflowers. It is impossible and expensive to treat all these animals. It doesn’t look good to adopters who come in and see sick cats so unfortunately a lot of the sick animals have to be euthanized.
The shelter works countless hours searching for rescues and foster homes to help find a loveable lifelong home for our city’s animals. However, you can only as a rescue or foster parent so many times for help. These people rescue animals all over our country and surrounding foster parents also foster for other shelters. This is yet another reason why more animals are euthanized. It is a sad situation for the city of Clinton’s animal lovers who have donated countless dollars, fostered for our local shelters and devoted their time whether it be to volunteer or help with fundraisers and watch as these people are wanting to throw it all away.
Dr. Jane Leigh brought up some very important and concerning questions from her clients about the city’s animals yet none of them could be answered. Our mayor has no idea what he is doing. Now without having a contingency plan in place our city’s animals have no where to go. Dr. Ernst can’t take the animals at this time and because of our mayors negligence they cannot go to the Clinton Humane Society. So now what is your brilliant plan Mr. Mayor? Mr. Vulich and these council members now have no answers as to where all these homeless, neglected and abused animals will go. Due to his foolishness I have resigned from my position in marketing and fundraising on the board of the Clinton 4th of July Festival. I will no longer support nor contribute to this community as long as Mark Vulich is our mayor. If you find a homeless or wandering stray animal feel free to drop them off at the homes of Mark Vulich, Paul Gassman, Bev Hermann or Maggie Klaes. Unfortunately because of these people the only ones that will truly suffer is the animals.
