Internet for beginners classes. A one-hour basic instruction class designed to familiarize the user with the computer and set up an email account. Two separate classes will be offered: one will be held at the main branch of the library on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. and the other class will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Lyons branch of the library. City Reads Book Club. On Thursday, Jan. 9, at 4:30 p.m. the next City Reads Book Club will meet at the main library. The group will be reading “The Girls from Ames” by Jeffrey Zaslow. Meet the Ames Girls: Eleven childhood friends who formed a special bond growing up in Ames, Iowa. As young women, they moved to eight different states, yet managed to maintain an enduring friendship that would carry them through college and careers, marriage and motherhood, dating and divorce, a child’s illness and the mysterious death of one member of their group.

The Root Cellar invites you to start off the new year with a community discussion about genealogy and family history on Saturday, Jan 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join Root Cellar staff and area genealogists for an introduction to the Root Cellar collections, followed by an open forum for guests to exchange research tips, resources and other information.
