After hearing the news of decreased enrollment this school year for Clinton Community Schools, which creates a $700,000 budget shortfall for next school year, I feel the need to express my opinion that salary increases should not be considered in coming negotiations.
Please don't misunderstand. I don't think we could ever pay teachers and other school staff what they deserve. They do so much for the future of our community — our children.
However, I have been frustrated year after year when the district has needed to cut expenses and continually negotiates pay raises with most, if not all bargaining units. To compound that frustration, administrators automatically receive raises according to unit negotiations year after year.
Our administrators do a fantastic job as well, but we have a seriously over-administrated district. Increasing administration salaries in relation to teacher raises exponentially overburdens the budget.
Please take the time thank our elected school board members for their volunteer service to the community and encourage their consideration of fiscal responsibility with tax payers dollars.
