I am writing to tell you about an organization I am dedicated to that supports children and their families battling Pediatric Cancer at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
Each day, 46 kiddos are diagnosed with cancer and I am involved in Dance Marathon at the University of Iowa, because I want to help make a difference.
This is my second year involved with Dance Marathon, and this year is Dance Marathon’s 20th year on campus. I am so especially excited this year because I am a Morale Captain Assistant and a Family Representative.
Dance Marathon is by far my favorite organization and I am so honored to be able to say that I am a leadership member. These kids fight hard every day of their lives and just want to live a normal life; they have made a huge impact on me and I can only hope that I will make an impact on them. I have been involved with the kiddos so much since I’ve been a part of Dance Marathon.
I have done walking group with the kid families staying at the hospital; I have canned to raise money at football tailgates, and attended many events for the families and kiddos. The most recent event I attended was a family picnic for the families. We played a ton of games and made all sorts of things, just spending the day having some fun at Upper City Park. These are just a few of the many things we do with these amazing kiddos.
What is Dance Marathon?Dance Marathon is one of the largest student-run organizations at the University of Iowa. Over the past 19 years, Dance Marathon has raised more than $12.7 million to benefit over 600 families who have been treated at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Unit. All year long, I have been busy partaking in events to raise awareness and money for pediatric cancer.
