Library has activities for all

---- — There’s plenty of excitement at the library this week. The library has experienced some much needed upgrades to our public internet computers thanks to our new IT manager, Josh Hansen. New, faster computers are available at the main branch of the library loaded with Microsoft Office 2010. The library also offers free public WiFi.

Check out these upcoming library activities!

• Groundbreaking Reads Adult Summer Reading. The prize winner for June 14 for the adult summer reading program is Mary Clary. The prizes this week are two free subs from Jimmy John’s and one free Domino’s Pizza. She also wins two “rent one get one free” Family Video movie rentals and two “buy one get one free” sightseeing cruise certificates on the Celebration Belle.

• Story Times. Picnic! Enjoy stories about picnics. Preschool story time takes place on Wednesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. and Toddler Time will be Thursday, June 27, at 10 a.m. If you have questions, contact children’s librarian Tamie Bird.

• Dig up a Good Movie! Family Movie Day on Friday, June 21, at 1 p.m. What happens when you put Dracula, a bunch of other monsters and one human in a hotel together? A crazy funny time as Dracula tries to prevent his friends from discovering the hidden human. Movie is rated PG. Popcorn and beverages will be served.

• Paws for Reading! Kids! Come and read to a therapy dog on Saturday, June 22, at 10 a.m. Children can increase their reading skills by reading to a dog who does not judge them when they read. Each child will get 15 minutes to read to the therapy dog. Pre-registration is required. Please call or stop in the Main Branch to sign up.

• Teen Movie Night! When a small town is attacked by zombies, who can it call? Only misunderstood Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. Enjoy ParaNorman on Monday, June 24, at 5 p.m. Snacks provided. Movie is rated PG.

• The Importance of Trees: On Tuesday, June 25, at 1 p.m., Matt Parbs, director of the Sawmill Museum, will be a guest at the library. Hear some fun stories about trees — including The Lorax! Kids can dress up like a tree and do a fun craft! For grades first through fifth.

• Afternoon adventures. Explore your world every Wednesday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This week, June 26, kids can watch a movie! Open to children in grades first through fifth.

• Creative Writing Circle for Teens. Get writing and share your work with others from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26. If you have questions, call YA librarian Kendra Evers.

• Market Music: Joe and Vicki Price. On Wednesday evening, June 26, from 4-6 p.m. enjoy some party time blues performed by award- winning artists. Market Music Concerts coincide with the Lyons Farmers Market, weather permitting and are sponsored by the Clinton Public Library. Concerts will be at the Four Square Park Bandshell. Funding provided by the Friends of the Clinton Public Library.

• Marcia Lathrop, Author Event. On Thursday, June 27, from 5-7 p.m. at the Lyons branch, Illinois author Marcia Lathrop will share her memoir of growing up in abuse and the key to how she healed from the trauma she experienced. Through counseling and listening to God, she found a way out and hopes her story will inspire others. Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing.

• Magician, Ventriloquist, Comedian! Kids, don’t miss Chris McBrien’s funny show with lots of audience participation on Thursday, June 27, at 3:30 p.m. at the Ericksen Community Center.

• Story time on the Lawn. Join us on Thursday, June 27, at 1 p.m.at the Lyons Branch for story time and “Picnic on the Lawn.” Bring snacks and a blanket while you listen to stories on the grass!

• Teen Anime Convention! On Saturday, June 29, from 11 a.m to 5 p.m.. teens are invited to an Anime Convention at the library. Pocky, Ramen and other snacks provided. Cosplay encouraged. There will be panels, video games and anime showings throughout the day. Photo shoot opportunities will be available.

• Special closing at Lyons. The Lyons branch of the library will be closed on Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29, to allow the staff to rearrange the library’s books and complete some in-depth cleaning. The library will reopen with normal hours on Monday, July 1.
