Preserve Clinton Park

Preserve Clinton Park

Once again I hear of some entity wanting a Clinton, Iowa park land for a project.

Please, let’s not use precious city park land for projects, no matter how wonderful they may be. The case in point is the use of historic Clinton Park (or what’s left of it) as a spot for a free health clinic.

There are many locations in town which would be enhanced by such a project. Clinton Park is used by school children, local residents, the Vince Jetter Summer programs, area churches, businesses and it was donated to the city of Clinton by the Iowa Land Co. in 1855 (as was DeWitt Park, sites for churches and schools in the original platting of the city; see original map at the Clinton County Historical Society Museum.)

Clinton Park is already an extremely valuable asset to the city. Let’s preserve it.

Gary Herrity,

Clinton
