While I sincerely believe that our veterans are due every honor and recognition, I must express my disappointment in the possibility of renaming Liberty Avenue.
Three generations of my family have lived on Liberty Avenue. I have many happy memories of visiting my grandparents at my father’s childhood home across the alley from Elmwood Dairy.
As the oldest I was in charge of all the cousins on our trip to purchase a treat for each of us and a pint of coffee ice cream for Grandma Kate.
Train hoppers were occasional visitors to Grandma and Grandpa’s and always caused a stir.
Grandpa Eddie was a master painter for Clinton Corn and walked across the railroad tracks to work everyday. He never learned to drive and was one of those train hoppers in his young and single Golden Gloves days.
My brother and his family moved to the home when it got to be too much for Grandpa.
I feel that renaming Liberty Avenue is a disservice to the neighbors who are part of Clinton’s heritage.
