Clinton Labor Congress endorses Eric Gettes

The Clinton Labor Congress has endorsed Eric Gettes to serve on the Clinton School Board.

Mr. Gettes is one of six candidates for four positions up for election on Sept. 10.

Mr. Gettes is a school psychologist with a degree in general and special education. As an employee of the Area Education Agency, he has been able to work in multiple schools in the district and brings with him a good understand of the district’s needs.

We laud his career-long commitment to education, and we are very much interested in his ideas about facilities improvements, collaborative opportunities, and community service components for graduation. Many of our union members participate in Habitat for Humanity and other volunteer activities as we believe this is what creates strong community bonds.

Most importantly, we strongly urge all people to vote on Sept. 10. Despite the fact that school districts get the lion’s share of our property tax dollars, and we have a tremendous opportunity to have direct impact on board’s policies, School Board races have notoriously low-turnout.

Please get out and exercise the democratic right that makes our country strong: Vote Sept. 10, for Eric Gettes.

  • Letter to the Editor: Local firefighters' union speaks out on proposed contract

    Dear citizens/taxpayers of Clinton:
The members of Local 609 feel that it is our duty to inform the citizens of Clinton that the article titled “‘Fair offer’ differences” in the April 9, 2014 edition of the Clinton Herald was full of inaccurate statements regarding our negotiated contract proposal with the city. These incorrect statements could impact the use of your city funds negatively and unduly influence our elected representatives. So, we would like to address these points, as follows:
