BUSH: Data Dimensions experiences solid growth

Mark Bush
Special to the Herald

CLINTON — It was nearly 40 years ago when my father, Walter L. Bush, recognized the need for a data capture service. This was a grand idea, a vision born when it wasn’t the best of times to start a business. Then, much like today, the economy was tricky, often influenced by the political landscape. Skyrocketing inflation, Watergate and the threat of nuclear war ushered in the 1970s.

In the small town of Elkhorn, Wis., where we lived at the time, I never imagined my father’s start-up venture would eventually evolve into the successful, thriving business process automation company it has become: Data Dimensions.

Now, as a second-generation family business, Data Dimensions is experiencing unprecedented growth. Over the last 12 months we have doubled in size. Inc. magazine recently honored us with their Hire Power award. It is an honor we gratefully share with the Clinton community, where we have been in business for over 25 years.

As you may know from recent news reports, we just opened a new facility in Clinton that will generate over 130 jobs. From the planning stages of this project through completion, we were consistently impressed by the collaboration among the public and private sectors, particularly among city of Clinton officials, the Clinton Regional Development Corp., the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The community’s business-friendly environment underscored our confidence in choosing Clinton for this major expansion.

As important is the remarkable work ethic and dedication our Clinton employees steadfastly demonstrate. Our team members in Clinton — individually and collectively — exemplify our corporate values of uncompromising commitment to quality, responsiveness, integrity and excellence. As legendary Pittsburgh Steelers coach Chuck Noll said, “As a member of a team, you have to do whatever you can do to help the team win.” Our Clinton team is second to none.

Data Dimensions is driven by people, powered by technology. Some scoff at the philosophy of putting people first, saying such thinking is old fashioned, a relic of the 20th century. On the contrary. No matter how technologically advanced our society may become, there will never be a substitute for good, hardworking, caring people; people like those whom we encounter at Data Dimensions each and every day.

The shining success that our Clinton operation has been for the past 25 years would not have happened without the commitment and dedication of the community. With success comes the excitement of being able to have a bigger impact on the community outside of Data Dimensions, including the ability to give back in a bigger way.

Thank you to all who helped make our expansion possible. On behalf of the Data Dimensions family, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year.

Mark Bush,

Data Dimensions Chairman
