YA is Not Just for Teens: Some may be skeptical when it comes to young adult fiction — isn’t it too juvenile to read if you’re no longer a teen? YA stories are packed with realistic characters and wonderful development and interesting plots. They weave into the imagination and can leave you wanting more. They’re great books to settle into and get caught up in for hours at a time. Not all YA are paranormal romances like the Twilight series. There are reimagined fairytales like “Beastly” by Alex Flinn or retelling one of the greatest love stories between Romeo and Juliet, as “Warm Bodies” by Isaac Marion with zombies in place of the Montagues. Be ready to become emotionally attached to these stories and characters. There is a little bit of something from every genre in YA books — from mysteries by authors like Carolina B. Cooney and Sara Shepard to great adventures written by Rick Riordan, J.K Rowling and Anthony Horowitz. YA isn’t a genre, it’s the age of the protagonist so don’t let that stop you from picking up a great book and giving it a try.
