Reader: Here is an option for those who want to buy a home

My husband and I recently decided to pursue buying a home. I happened to stumble on the Iowa Finance Authority website page. How many of you have gone to their website? Would you know what they offer?

I found out just by happenstance and I am so glad! I discovered they do loans and grants for homeowners. We are currently working with ECIA. They are doing a grant program for rehabilitation on our home.

We are getting new siding, windows, insulation, a handicap ramp, handicap accessible bathroom and handicap accessible doors.

We are getting these done due to our circumstances, but I can reassure you that you don’t have to have a disability to qualify. We are working with the First Home Program and First Home Program Plus that offers up to $2,500 down.

They have an eligibility checklist that will help you figure out if you qualify. You would be surprised!

My goal is to spread the word about a fabulous program that Iowa offers. I promise it is worth checking into if you are buying a home soon.

Clinton

Daniel Snyder has come under fire for refusing to change the mascot of his NFL team, the Washington Redskins. The Redskins, however, are far from being the only controversial mascot in sports history.  Here is a sampling of athletic teams from all areas of the sports world that were outside the norm.

The NCAA once cracked down on colleges that went too far luring top prospects, then it targeted teams that lathered players with special treatment. That was until the NCAA's get-tough approach backfired, rendering it ineffective and creating an opportunity for those who want to play dirty.
