AREA OFFICIALS: A thankful community

The Clinton Herald posed the question, “What are you most thankful for?” to several area officials. Each day this week, we will feature responses to that question in anticipation of Thanksgiving on Thursday.

Marsha Smith, CVB President

“With all of the tragedy in our country right now, I am very thankful that the Lord has blessed my family this year with good health, good opportunities and great friends.”

Chuck Wiebenga, Camanche High School principal

“I am thankful for the opportunities and freedoms that we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America.”

Heather Bennett, Fulton Tourism director

"I am thankful for my family. Their love, support and friendship makes going through life worthwhile and meaningful."

Nathan Sondgeroth, Clinton Chamber President

“I am thankful for a wonderful wife and children who believed in me enough to move to a place where we didn't know anybody.  I love them and I always will.”

Tom Roth, Camanche city administrator

“I am most thankful for a country that provides for our basic needs — safety, health, food, water and shelter. Without those being met, most other things wouldn't matter.”

John Staszewski, Clinton County Supervisor

“Thankful to be living in this great country, especially in Iowa. I am also thankful for having good friends and family.”

Francie Hill, Former director at Bickelhaupt Arboretum

“I am filled with thanks this year for family (and family-to-be) and friends. As I write this on a Navajaho reservation in the middle of tumbleweed, sandstone, roaming dogs and welcome smiles on happy children and wise elderly alike, I am reminded how many opportunities I have to realize what my blessings every day. For this gift, I am very thankful.“

    Dear citizens/taxpayers of Clinton:
The members of Local 609 feel that it is our duty to inform the citizens of Clinton that the article titled “‘Fair offer’ differences” in the April 9, 2014 edition of the Clinton Herald was full of inaccurate statements regarding our negotiated contract proposal with the city. These incorrect statements could impact the use of your city funds negatively and unduly influence our elected representatives. So, we would like to address these points, as follows:
